Artist's Description
Painting of a clarinet completed in watercolor and ink.
The clarinet is a musical instrument in the woodwind family. The clarinet has a cylindrical bore and a flared bel. To play the clarinet you use a single reed to produce sound.
Clarinets comprise a family of instruments of differing sizes and pitches. The clarinet family is the largest such woodwind family, with more than a dozen types, ranging from the BB♭ contrabass to the E♭ soprano. The most common clarinet is the B♭ soprano clarinet.
German instrument maker Johann Christoph Denner is credited with inventing the clarinet in the 1600s by adding a register key to the chalumeau, which was an earlier single-reed instrument. Over time, additional keywork and the development of airtight pads were added to improve the tone and the ability to play. Today the clarinet is used in classical music, military bands, klezmer, jazz, and other styles. It is a standard fixture of the orchestra and concert band.

PLEASE NOTE: Watermarks are digital identification and will be removed when prints or items are ordered. I am predominantly a self-taught artist and photographer who has lived in Oregon for 20 years and just recently relocated to the Appalachian mountains of Western Maryland. Now with less dogs (we had six!) and my husband retired, he and I spend many of our vacations RVing and camping. I continue to possess a deep love of nature and this subject has been a major influence in my art choices. I describe myself as a nature/landscape photographer. Though, that defines only a portion of...
